What to wear for family portraits

Family pictures have come a long way these days and so have clothing options!
There are so many great outfit choices out there so don't feel like you have to conform to the blue jeans and white tees anymore!

Fall has officially arrived which means it's my busy season! I put together a few style boards to show what kind of fun color themes you can easily put together for your next family photo session.

Here are a few tips to keep in mind when planning your look:

1. Matching is out! You don't have to dress your entire family in matching yellow sweaters in order to create a coordinating look. Instead go for a mix and match approach by picking several different colors that compliment each other.

2. Use accent pieces for that pop of color. These can be scarfs, jewelry, hair bows and head bands, shoes, hats, leggings or a cool belt.
3. It's OK to mix and match prints. Have some fun and don't be scared to mix stripes, polka dots and florals, just remember to spread them out between family members.

4. If it doesn't make you feel good, don't wear it. In other words, if your less confident in a mini dress and 4 inch heels it will show on camera! But when you feel fabulous in your outfit, your confidence will shine through and you will be more likely to love your photographs!

For the style board pictured above, I stayed with a neutral color scheme and added a pop of color with the coral. This is a great color palette for fall pictures. Everything on this board can be found at OldNavy.com
.
For the board above I went with Yellow and Green which are great contrasting colors. This is a really simple palette and a quick solution that looks great on camera! Everything on this board can be found at OldNavy.com except for the boys yellow vest and long sleeved tee which are at Gap.com
.

I
did not create the style board pictured above. I found it online but I really liked the purple-blue-gray color scheme and think it is very appropriate for fall/winter pictures!
For the style board above, I went with a very monochromatic look. I LOVE this palette because it's a more modern take on the blue jeans/white shirt look of the 90's. I love the different textures, patterns and accessories that you can throw into it. You can't go wrong!! Everything on this board is available at OldNavy.com

Now let me tell you another reason why this look is my favorite. You can easily add pops of color to this palette and make it your own! Just imagine how fabulous it would look if you added
.
bright yellow

.
or brick red
.
or aqua

.
It's very versatile!

I hope this post is helpful..now get out there, hit those stores and Happy Shopping!
